A LOOK BACK

(part one)

January is a great time to look back at some favorites from what Laurie Beck Photography has created in the past year, and then look ahead to the exciting weddings and photos yet to be made at The Ballroom at The Ben, The Philadelphia Country Club, Spring Mill Manor, and The Radnor Hotel to name a few; and for Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Valley Green Bank and the rest of my commercial clients.

ELIZABETH EDWARDS

One of the wonderful things about being a photographer is that I am able to photograph many amazing people. I was lucky to spend 4 hours with Elizabeth Edwards in 2009 when she spoke to a group of breast cancer survivors at a Living Beyond Breast Cancer conference. LBBC has been a wonderful client of mine and my work with them has allowed me into the lives of many cancer survivors.  I was saddened yesterday to learn that Elizabeth had passed away.  I was warmed to know that I was able to spend time with her and make some wonderful images. Each person I photograph, no matter how famous or not, touches me and informs my life experience.  This is one of the most cherished gifts about being a people photographer.

JOHN STANGO – URBAN POP ARTIST

Even though this blog is wedding focused, from time to time I will highlight some of my corporate or fine art work, to keep my followers informed about what else I am working on.  Recently, I had the great privilege to photograph Urban Pop Artist John Stango‘s paintings for his new website.  His colorful pallatte and large scale paintings were a nice alternative to photographing people, especially during the winter months when the wedding season is slower.  John’s work appears in public and private collections including those of Jessica Simpson, Sylvester Stallone, Nicole Miller, and Governor Ed Rendell.  Aside from loving the art, John and Mimi, his rep, are great people to work with!!  Visit his site to see more of his work as well as mine.

We had fun doing some alternative style portraits of John as he became part of his painting of Marilyn Monroe.
